Our History

It Started With an Idea

In 1985, the Lunenburg Board of Trade first brought forth the idea of having a Farmers’ Market in Lunenburg due to the success of the original Bridgewater Farmers’ Market.

Working with the Bridgewater Farmers’ Market Association, and with support from many Lunenburg residents, the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market opened on July 25th, 1984 at the parking lot of the former railway station on Dufferin St.

The market began with 15 local vendors, some of which were also members of the Bridgewater Farmers’ Market, and ran from mid-July until mid-October every Thursday morning. You were able to find delicious local seasonal produce, meats, fish, cheese, and artisan items.

We Are Still Growing

The Lunenburg Farmers’ Market has enjoyed immense growth, changing locations, welcoming more local vendors, local musicians, and community groups. Thanks to the strong community support that we continue to enjoy in 2010 we were able to expand to a year-round market, with quite a few of our founding members still present. We have settled into the Lunenburg Community Centre for the majority of the year and make use of the Lunenburg Arena from May-September.

We are committed to the highest quality local seasonal produce, meats, fish, cheese, wine, bread, spirits, flowers, plants, prepared food, fair-trade certified organic coffee, artisan items, and more.

We look forward to meeting you at the Lunenburg Farmers’ Market, our year-round market on the South Shore.
